Biography
Zachary David Alexander Efron, know as just Zac Efron (born October 18, 1987) is an American actor and occasional singer.He began in acting life in early 2000s and became known by young audiences for Disney hits "High School Musical" and "High School Musical 2″ and the film version of broadway classical "Hairspray".Zac was considered by NewsWeek(in 2006) the biggest teen star in America and declared by Rolling Stone magazine the "poster boy for tweenyboppers".

Zac was born in California, US.His father, David Efron, is an engineer at a power plant, and his mother, Starla Baskett, is a former secretary who worked at the same power plant as Efron’s father. Efron had a self-described "normal childhood" in a middle class family, and has a younger brother, Dylan.Efron is of Jewish ancestry and was raised agnostic, having never been religious.He has said that he would "flip out" if he got a "B" and not an "A" in school, and that he was a "class clown."Zac graduated from school in 2006 and was accepted into University Of Southern California, but deferred his enrollment while he worked on film projects.

Zac’s first "touchs" with acting experience started in his school.Efron performed plays such as Gypsy, Peter Pan, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Music Man.Zac’s drama teacher recommended him to an agent in Los Angeles.

In 2002, Zac started to appear in several television series in guest roles, including hits such as E.R., The Guardian, Firefly and Summerland.From 2003 to 2004 He appeared in CSI : Miami, The Replacements and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.In 2005 he was featured as the lead role in the independent film The Derby Stallion and in 2005 he was featured on the cast of Warner Bros. series "Summerland".

2006 : High School Musical - The Rose to Fame
Zac’s rose to fame was in 2006 when he starred the leading role in Disney’s super hit, High School Musical, Zac played Troy Bolton (picture left with co-star Corbin Bleu in one of the movie scenes).The film is one of Disney’s made-for-tv most successful movies ever, The movie won two Emmy’s and a Television Critics Association award, besides a Billboard Music Awards for Best Soundtrack, Zac won a Teen Choice Award for Breakout Star, Zac and the film’s main casting toured Australia, England and U.S. to promote the film.

Shortly after High School Musical aired, Efron debuted at Billboard Charts with two songs from the movie."Breaking Free", made de fastest climbing in Billboard from #86 to #4 between one week and the other to date.

In 2006, Efron was signed to the cast of Hairspray, that would be his first big motion picture release, The movie was filmed in Toronto, Canada.He cut and dyed his hair dark brown (picture right) and gained about 15 pounds for the role.The movie was released in the U.S. on 20th July in 2007.Zac and the other leading role actress to the movie Nikki Blonski toured through U.S.A., Canada, Spain, Japan, England and Australia to promote the movie.It has received a nominee to Best Soundtrack for Motion Picture in the 2008ths Grammy’s and won Best Acting for whole cast at the 13th Annual Critic’s Choice Awards.

2007 - 2008 : Career Development
High School Musical 2 was released in August 2007, weeks after Efron topped Internet Movie’s Database Star Meter at #1, indicating that he was the most searched celebrity in the site.The film set a new record, becoming the most watched basic cable program in U.S. history, with 17.2 million viewers.

Zac posed for his first major magazine publication, for Rolling Stone in 2007, shot by Matthew Rolston, He was on the cover of the August issue (picture left) of that year with the headline "America’s New Hearthrob", In the interview he revealed that he hoped someday to play an action hero.

On October 10, 2007 Zac hosted the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards in Sydney, He also won Favorite Movie Star in the show.

From late 2007 to early 2008 Zac shot the film "17 Again" (picture right - taken on the set of the movie) where he co-star with actor Matthew Perry, the comedy movie will hit the box office in February 2009.In January 2008 it was announced Zac was casting in "Me And Orson Welles" he shot the movie during February - April 2008 in New York and in The British Isles (some Islands next to the U.K.)

In early 2008, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens confirmed to be dating.Zac was confirmed to cast in the third and last High School Musical movie, which is scheduled to debut on teathers October 24, 2008.
